Departures scheduled every day from Giardini Naxos and Taormina (cable car isola bella)  by comfortable minivan.

Once you Reach 1900 mt start the excursion with special latest generation off road -vehicles 4x4 .

The excursion start from altitude of 1800 mt and continues along the panoramic road  road which, between ancient craters and recent lava flows, will allow us to reach the Volcanological Observatory located at an altitude of 2,850 metres.

Once the ascent has begun, the first stop will allow you to observe the ruins of the  "Le Betulle" hotel, the only visible structure among those destroyed by the lava flow  of 27 October 2002.Continue in the direction of the "Umberto and Margherita" craters, located at an altitude of approximately 2,380 meters, where it is possible to carry out a small trek on the edge of these two enormous extinct craters, where all the force of a nature that creates and destroys is perceived.

 

After the visit we set off again in the direction of the volcanological observatory located in Pizzi Deneri,. After leaving the off-road vehicle, accompanied by our guides, a short trekking route of about 15 minutes begins which will lead us to the top of the Pizzi Deneri promontory at an altitude of 2900 meters where, weather conditions permitting, it is possible to admire the Aeolian Islands, the Costa Jonica from Syracuse to Taormina, the gulf of Giardini Naxos and the Calabrian coasts.

It is also possible to observe, from a distance and in absolute safety, the summit craters that dominate the majestic Valle del Bove, which many times has been an important protective barrier for the villages located downstream from the summit craters, during the countless lava flows .

Returning to the vehicles, the next stop will be the eruptive theater of the eruption of October 27, 2002 with its characteristic buttonhole craters. Once you have reached your destination at an altitude of about 1,900 metres, the trek on the lava flows and explosive products begins. The circular route will allow you to walk along the edges of the craters and admire the morphology called "button" typical of the lateral eruptions of the volcano.
